Povoação is a municipality in Portugal, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, on the island of São Miguel. At the 2021 census it had 5,796 inhabitants over an area of 108.0 km².
Population density is about 54 per km²: a mainly rural municipality, with a main town and several villages scattered across its territory. Of the 19 municipalities in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, it is number 9 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 42 km east of Ponta Delgada, the capital.
