Velas is a municipality in Portugal, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, on the island of São Jorge. At the 2021 census it had 4,940 inhabitants over an area of 117.4 km².
Population density is about 42 per km²: a mainly rural municipality, with a main town and several villages scattered across its territory. Of the 19 municipalities in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, it is number 11 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 234 km north-west of Ponta Delgada, the capital.
