Penalva do Castelo is a municipality in Portugal, in Viseu district, in the Beiras, in central Portugal. At the 2021 census it had 7,340 inhabitants over an area of 134.2 km².
Population density is about 55 per km²: a mainly rural municipality, with a main town and several villages scattered across its territory. Of the 24 municipalities in Viseu district, it is number 18 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 20 km east of Viseu, the capital. The nearest major city is Coimbra, about 80 km away.
